Studio Notes | What We’ve Been Up To
We are thrilled to welcome Tim Dalton as the newest addition to our team at Context Studio, bringing his talent and experience to his new role as our new Senior Service Designer.
Tim is no stranger to us at Context Studio – over the last few years has been an ‘on-call’ freelance Service Designer, and we are really delighted to be welcoming him into the team.
Tim’s journey into the world of design began in his teens when he melded design and illustration skills with his passion for hardcore punk. He co-edited and contributed to numerous music fanzines, with a knack for visual storytelling. This led him to pursue classical animation for two years before delving into the realm of fine art, where he earned his degree as a fine art painter. Post-graduation, Tim further honed his design skills studying Graphic Reproduction Technology at postgraduate level.
Tim’s experience includes a stint as a graphic designer in magazine publishing in Ireland, a role in newspaper publishing in Darwin, Australia, and work as production manager at the Centralian Advocate in Alice Springs.
Returning to Ireland, Tim resumed his graphic design career as the in-house designer for Ireland’s largest political party. In this role, he worked closely with over 100 members of both houses of parliament, demonstrating his reliability as a team-player, often in high-pressure situations.
More recently, Tim seized opportunity during the pandemic to further his education – pursuing a Masters in Service Design at NCAD, and graduating at the top of his class with first-class honours. He completed his major project and dissertation with the Irish Immigration Service, part of the Department of Justice. This work demonstrated Tim’s ability to navigate complex challenges and deliver impactful solutions.
Since graduation, Tim has collaborated with talented individuals on various projects, including initiatives related to higher learning and Recognition of Prior Learning at Maynooth University‘s innovation lab, MI:Lab.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Tim dedicates the rest of his time to barbell strength training, martial arts, portrait painting, managing an extensive record collection, learning blues guitar… while also being a proud 200-time blood donor!
According to Tim, he “has it good”, and he treasures moments spent with his family—his wife, daughter, and son— the most.
We are more than excited to have Tim on board, and look forward to the creativity, expertise, and experience he brings to the Context Studio team.
