Studio Notes | What We’ve Been Up To
We’re excited to announce that Rebecca Fagan has joined the Context Studio team as our newest Senior Service Designer!
Rebecca is a human-centred designer with an interest in creating meaningful change through social impact and service design. Her practice has mainly focused on community building and she is drawn to reimagining systems to better serve people, animals and environments.
Rebecca’s background is varied, having studied Sculpture and Visual Culture in NCAD. After graduating in 2017, she realised that she was most interested in socially engaged art practice and the positive impact this can have on local communities – in 2018 she decided to go on to complete her MSc in Design Innovation in Maynooth University. Here she had the chance to delve further into her fascination with social impact and dedicated her projects and dissertation to topics like animal welfare and improving the public perception of dogs (by designing new interventions encouraging dog owners to pick up their dog poop!).
Rebecca has spent the last 4.5 years working at Dell Technologies on the Product Design team. In this time she has designed new and existing user experiences for customers of Dell’s B2B ‘Premier’ platform. Her recent projects included re-imagining end to end customer journeys, redesigning product/service ecosystems and creating new self-service experiences for online users.
Outside of her role but still within the company, Rebecca flexed her community-building muscle and ran successful internal services including the employee Book Club and the Junior Designer Network. She is passionate about peer-to-peer knowledge sharing and mentorship and has mentored early career designers to aid their professional development. She has participated as a panelist at iWish where she shared insights about her career path and she is eager to continue to encourage young women to pursue careers in STEM.
In her spare time, Rebecca spends most of it either talking about or being at her local animal shelter to volunteer. She loves all animals but has a special place in her heart for those most in need of new homes – she has also learned lots through volunteering about all kinds of animals such as ferrets, goats, turtles and more! She is known to foster animals (mostly dogs, and one bunny) so it’s not unusual for her to have an animal companion in the background on a given day.
Rebecca is passionate about diversity & inclusion and creating sustainable and safe systems for all. She is excited to join the Context Studio team and take on the new challenges that come her way.
